MULASSIS – MUlti-LAyer Shielding SImulation Software
MULASSIS is a Geant4-based tool that deals with common radiation analyses types (TID, NIEL, fluence, …) in layered geometry models. The models can take either a spherical shell or planar slab geometry.
Mulassis is an Monte-Carlo simulation-based tool for dose and particle fluence analysis associated with the use of radiation shields. Users can define the shielding and detector geometry as planar or spherical layers, with the material in each layer defined by its density and elemental/isotopic composition. Incident particles can be any Geant4 particles; these include protons, neutrons, electrons, gammas, alphas, and light ions (only up to He-4 currently; heavier ions will be treated after the release of kinetic and QMD models in Geant4). There is a wide choice for their initial energy and angular distribution. In addition, radiation spectra produced by SPENVIS can be inputted when the tool is used within this system. The Geant4 toolkit comes with a rich collection of physics models, and it is not an easy task to pick the right combinations even for an experienced physicist.
Other Geant4 applications in the space domain can be found here.
